Obama: Decimating U.S. Military?

Bulletin Regarding Gov. Sarah Palin (who always puts her hand on her heart when the National Anthem plays):

First, the founder of Race42008.com, Kavon W. Nikrad, has backed Gov. Palin for VP. This is one of our biggest endorsements yet, and you can read why I think it is important on the blog. Second, several supporters have emailed to tell me that, according to CNN, the Governor will be featured on Monday's Glenn Beck TV program (7-9 PM EST on CNN Headline News). Details have not yet been posted, and I have received several differing tips; so I don't know that exact nature or subject matter of the feature (I'm hoping it includes an interview). I will post details on the blog if and when I find out more. If you want to know what's going on in the continuing debate over America's future, it's a good idea to avoid the national media, which -- on the whole -- remains as clueless as ever. Recently, some of the Black Conservatives (Yahoo Group) have been condemning Barack Obama's weakness when it come to defending America from its enemies. Frankly, Obama doesn't seem to recognize that the U.S. has enemies. Here are recent comments and links from Black Conservatives "Westloop" and "GhostPuppy911."

In other words, Obama plans to gut US defenses. If the US ceases to defend itself, it will soon be overwhelmed; then who else would step-up to defend the world against Totalitarianism? France?

BLACK CONSERVATIVES DENOUNCING OBAMA

In recent days, many Black Conservatives have been criticizing Barack Obama and demanding that he come clean on where he agrees with Rev. Jeremiah Wright -- and where he disagrees. Today, on the Black Conservatives Yahoo site, a member named Randy said the following:

"There's a very simple reason why Obama's pastor is a more important issue than Clinton's infidelity or McCain's thieving wife.It is Obama himself who has called Pastor Wright 'my mentor.' That necessarily incorporates both moral and intellectual guidance. Obama has actually admitted in books and interviews that he has relied heavily on Pastor Wright's moral and intellectual advice. Even regarding the central issue of running for President, why would Pastor Wright approve unless he felt that Obama would do what is 'politically correct.' Given Pastor Wright's questionable judgement and patriotism (to put it mildly), those are issues at least worth considering seriously. It cannot be simply ignored. It will not go away, unless Obama can provide a thorough explanation."--Randy

Unlike Barack Obama's campaign, John McCain's is very much on the move. Recent polling data shows that he's ahead in two critical "Blue" states, Pennsylvania (where I live) and Michigan. He's also ahead in the nation as a whole.

Later today (Friday, February 8, 2008), I'll be writing about the tactics advocated by an Oklahoma activists, Sharon Caliendo, who lives in Norman. Sharon discusses how you can turn your favorite candidate from "someone who came close" to "someone who celebrates a victory on Election Eve."

Sharon, along with Greg Alterton, began the Yahoo Group of Rudy Giuliani supporters. When Rudy dropped out, the Group became "Rudy Supporters for McCain." It was and is one of the largest groups on Yahoo, with approximately 1500 members. It was a factor in John McCain's winning the Oklahoma Primary.

Her emphasis is on grassroots politics -- basically on political activists (like you) recruiting other activists. Of course, we each have ONE vote, but if we act wisely we can leverage our vote into many votes. It's something like a snowball rolling down a hill. By the time it reaches the bottom it has turned into a huge mass.

To win on November 4, 2008, John McCain will need approximately 70-75 million votes. Sharon's analysis explains how McCain can accumulate enough support to win. I hope you return to see what she says.


SHARON CALIENDO'S COMMENTS ON THE SUCCESSFUL GRASSROOTS EFFORT IN OKLAHOMA TO ELECT TOM COBURN TO THE SENATE. SENATOR COBURN INTRODUCED JOHN MCCAIN AT YESTERDAY'S CPAC MEETING.

It was the largest grassroots effort ever [the one for Tom Coburan] in the State of Oklahoma, and we did it from the ground up in every county. Then a State GOP Chair was elected that didn't believe in the grassroots and they lost that large coalition of Republicans that worked to elect Dr. Tom. Office holders were behind another candidate in the primary including enlisting help from the WH but Dr. Tom prevailed. The other candidate had a mailer with Pres Bush they sent out in the primary. Never had seen that before.

Know this is looking ahead but we need people passing out McCain stickers at every major conference football game this fall. We have 85,000 in the stands and another 10,000 milling around at every home game here in Norman for the University of Oklahoma. Lot of Texans come up for our games. We need to get those college CR's around the Country involved so we can get them passing out stickers. We have a Senate race and my hope is to tap into that to get some Inhofe/McCain/? shirts for both OU in crimson and OSU in Orange. OSU only has about 40,000 at their games but we can still tap into them as well. Our largest donors to the GOP in OK are also donors to OU and OSU.

We could do it around the Country!

I'm going to ask dozens of bloggers to join the Bloggers for McCain, and I believe most of them will. The "Rudy" group on Yahoo is mostly in McCain's camp now, and many of them are talented activists (Sharon, the group leader, worked in NH & FL for Rudy). They are one of the "sane" groups (as opposed to the other kind) on Yahoo Groups.

I'll be writing a lot about McCain over the next several weeks. My column today cites Michael Barone's comments. If McCain has a great Internet campaign, he can win.

Thank you for also reaching out to the former Rudy bloggers and getting them to come on board. Rudy's concession speech was wonderful, heartfelt and realistic. John McCain will be the nominee and hopefully President.

I'll be writing more each day between now and February 6 about steps Senator McCain must take to win the election next November. My emphasis in the next few days will be on the Supreme Court, health care, immigration, and the War on Terror, on all of which the Senator must sharpen his stands. It will be no picnic running against the team of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (who now seems to recognize that he will be on the ticket as the vice-presidential nominee).

In fact, Mrs. Clinton barely acknowledges that such a war exists -- presumably because she's trying to appeal to the 20% of Democrats who say in polls that they hope the U.S. loses in Iraq. Miss Coulter continues to be a front-runner in the "Scum of the Earth" contest. Here's how I replied to Sanity:

I'll be writing (maybe for last time) on Ann Coulter this weekend. What's next? An Afro? A miraculous conversion to Christianity? An affair with KFed? A sign of human decency? I'm sure Hillary will be delighted (?) at Ann's political conversion.

Today, I sent the following urgent message to McCain operatives:

It would be a very good idea to put Sharon (SKCalien@aol.com) on the McCain Campaign payroll. He needs people who are great organizers -- a lot more than he does big media buys. He has many such people now, and he needs more. People with Internet talents, speechwriters (hint: me), and GOTV types are going to be essential in this campaign. We need a Joe Trippi type or two, although without Joe's dismaying politics. Moveon.org will attack John from the left and -- believe it or not -- from the right. They will do anything in their power to deny him votes. McCain needs FEMALE veterans to get out front advocating his campaign. He needs Hispanics from Arizona and Texas to endorse him -- he won big with the Hispanic vote in the last Senate campaign. He even carried Apache County, which is unheard of for Republicans. Another very important point: Right now, he needs the endorsement of Gov. Sarah Palin, the nation's most popular elected official.

KEYSTONE STATE FOR JOHN MCCAIN

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Robert A. Gleason, Jr. has endorsed John McCain for president.*

"Today, I am excited to personally endorse Senator John McCain, who has proven to me that he is by far the candidate most ready to lead our country as our next president. Rarely does a candidate possess the level of experience and leadership qualities that Senator McCain brings to this race," said Chairman Gleason. "As a fellow veteran, I feel his sacrifices to our country are examples of leadership defined, not leadership discussed. Over the next nine and a half months, I look forward to working alongside former Governor Tom Ridge, a faithful McCain supporter, to deliver all of Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes to Senator John McCain, the next Republican President of the United States of America."

John McCain thanked Chairman Gleason for his support, saying "I am grateful for Rob Gleason's support. I admire Rob's long and distinguished record of service to our party and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His advice and counsel is important as we work toward victory in Pennsylvania."

FRED THOMPSON: HISTORY'S WORST CAMPAIGN

I wrote the following in response to a Yahoo "conservative" group where one member was asking where Fred Thompson's headquarters were in states like MI, MN, SD, and ND. You'll note that I'm not a big fan of Fred Thompson.

When the book is written on this campaign, there will be a fascinating chapter on Fred Thompson and his Incredible Disappearing Act. Asking where Fred's "headquarters" are in MI & MN is like asking where Ron Paul's HQ is in Harlem.

Apparently, Fred's "trophy wife," Jeri, is the head of his campaign. One step he should make immediately is to fire her. If his campaign isn't the worst in recorded history, I shudder to think which one was more inept (Dennis Kucinich? Mike Gravel?).

When Fred was in on the Senate on 9/11, he said of his own situation, "Now is not the time [for me] to leave . . ." Shortly thereafter, he left to go to an important position in Hollywood on a TV show that was regularly anti-military and anti-conservative.

In Thompson's career, he often had to choose between serving the nation and making a lot of money. In every cash, the appeal of the big bucks won.

I can't imagine what the appeal is that Fred holds for some conservatives. What on earth has the man ever done in his career as an elected official? Exactly what did he accomplish as a Senator? In his lucrative role as a lobbyist, he had as clients one unsavory individual or group after another, including the dictator of Haiti.

Fred is now 67 -- and looks and acts his age. At the same time, he's been building on his reputation as the laziest man in Washington. He has an active campaign in only one state, South Carolina, and when he loses there I'm sure he will return to Hollywood and live happily ever afterwards,

As a candidate, Fred is not in the same league as John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, or Mitt Romney. Those conservative individuals have been running full-speed for a year. In contrast, Fred has been meandering along, giving one pedestrian speech after another.

Good riddance, Fred.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN IOWA

NOTE: I'm going to wait until the organizational "dust" settles in the Russell Campaign before I write about it again. I'm going to spend the month of January writing about several other campaigns that I believe are extremely important, including Melissa Hart's effort to regain her congressional seat in PA's 4th District (where I live).

The following is an e-mail I wrote to several conservative and/or Republican members of Yahoo Groups. I am a very strong advocate of involving conservative and moderate younger people (the "Children's Crusade") in campaigns to elect Republicans.

I wrote awhile back to a couple of Yahoo Groups stating my strong disagreement with the gentleman who observed that Young People (17-30) aren't very important in politics, etc., etc.

To me, that was a classic example of a know-everything who knows nothing. In Iowa, Obama won a smashing victory with 57% of the young (Democratic) voters.

In the campaigns I'm working on -- especially Melissa Hart's effort -- I intend to seek out every conservative or moderate young person I can. I've used that approach in the past, and I see no reason not to repeat it. We cranky (mostly older) conservatives don't like dealing with young voters, so we pretend they don't exist.

Obama did not suffer from that illusion. He recognized that young people going to college in Iowa (including out-of-staters) were a key to victory. He got thousands of college students to return EARLY to campus and vote in the caucuses. And he won big.

Apparently, we Republican conservatives aren't that bright. We write off one group after another (Blacks, Hispanics, young people, female professionals) and expect somehow that our ideological fervor will save the day. It won't.

Immigration was a big issue with the relatively small number of Republicans who caucused. It was not a big issue with the huge number of Democrats who participated. The tremendous Democratic turnout in Iowa (239,000!) is an ominous development. Iowa is a swing-state, and guess which way it's swinging?

The results in 2008 could make the 2006 disaster look like the good old days.

Huckabee? He carried a large portion of the heavy evangelical vote in Iowa. I don't really have a lot else to say about it. Obama received more than twice as many votes as Huckabees.

I don't believe Huckabee has any chance of launching a national strategy to win in a general election. Evangelicals are a mere one-third of the people who call themselves Republicans.

I foresee a vote for Huckabee in a presidential election of about 35%. That kind of poor performance would cost Republicans many, many seats in Congress.
