Draft Palin on Facebook, My Space

This weekend, I'll write a column about why Adam, who originated the DraftPalin effort and I -- one of his first two recruits -- determined that by far the best choice for vice-president in 2008 would be Sarah Heath Palin. Adam and I, along with what's now an impressive group of Sarah supporters, often run into what he (at age 20) calls "old-fashioned political thinking," the notion that the V-P should be a graybeard who can help the presidential nominee carry some state or other. As I've explained before, the last V-P candidate who did such a thing was Lyndon Baines Johnson, who helped JFK carry Texas in 1960. We don't live in 1960 anymore. We need candidates who can revitalize a Republican Party that increasingly looks moribund -- and SEEMS headed for defeat in 2008. As an aging white Caucasian male, I know a certain way to ensure defeat is to run two guys who come from my generation.

AGAIN I'D LIKE TO THANK THE MANY VISITORS FROM ALASKA, THE NATION, AND THE WORLD. LIKE THE OLD "UNCLE SAM" POSTER, WE TRULY WANT YOU IN THE SARAH PALIN MOVEMENT. (See the comments at the end of this piece.)

The Draft Sarah Palin Movement has a rapidly growing presence on two major social networks: MySpace and Facebook. I'd urge you to visit the two sites and "join the crowd." It's a relatively painless process and will get you more involved in a positive effort to provide our country with great leadership.

Adam Brickley, the originator of Draft Sarah Palin, set up the MySpace and Facebook locations. You can find them at: http://myspace.com/palinforvp and http://facebook.com/group.php?gid=5483881282. Please take a minute or two and join. Leave comments at the sites if you'd like.

(As for Adam, I've called him "the Karl Rove of his generation." He demonstrates the kind of leverage a concerned citizen -- even one who's not yet 21 -- can have on the world he inhabits. He knows that the world "will go to h-ll in a handbasket" only if we allow it to. To paraphrase Edmund Burke, he not going to let the "triumph on evil" to occur on his watch.)

How important can such sites be in putting together a winning effort? Very much so. Prior to Senator Obama's formally launching his campaign, a young supporter established an Obama MySpace page. It ended up with "friends" totalling 168,000!

You've probably read that Obama has been raising a lot of money from small donors (in politics, that means contributions of $200 or less). Apparently, a good chunk of them come from that original MySpace collection of friends.

By the way, how do you think the Obama Campaign "rewarded" their young MySpace site founder? Essentially, they took over his creation and kicked him to the curb. (Note: In the Draft Palin Movement, we don't treat friends that way.)

If you ever need to find the social network links quickly, they're available on my blogroll, as well as on Adam's at http://palinforvp.blogspot.com/

It's true that the presidential nominee of the Republican Party in 2008 will name the individual who'll be on the ticket as the V-P choice. However, as I wrote recently, our Party's presidential nominee has a history, over 50-plus years, of making terrible choices for the second spot.

To our discredit, we are the Party that has nominated for vice-president (twice in each case) the following: Richard M. Nixon, Sprio T. Agnew, and Dan Quayle.

Both Nixon and Agnew ended up resigning in disgrace, the former as President, the latter as Vice-President. Dan Quayle might have made a decent president of his college fraternity but not a good President of the U.S. Even Dick Cheney, a fine man, has been either in his famous "undisclosed location" or the hospital for so long that the country occasionally has a hard time remembered he's still in office.

We support Sarah Palin because we think she's the best choice available to whatever candidate the Party nominates for President. Frankly, we don't want yet another V-P candidate who's too paranoid, or too corrupt, or too intellectually challenged, or too absent to serve the nation effectively.

We don't want a V-P choice that will help the top nominee to carry Alaska (or Wyoming). We want a choice that will help the President carry the nation through the great crises of our time.

To those who have eyes to see clearly, that choice is Sarah Heath Palin.

Ms. Palin certainly looks like she could be a great asset to any Presidential pick in 2008.

If you haven't heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, I encourage you to definitely take a look!
